The name Sedona was chosen rather haphazardly. The names being considered at the time were Oak Creek Crossing and Schnebly’s Station. The post office felt that these names were too long. At the time they were limiting new names to a single word. And so Carl Schnebly, the first postmaster, put forth the name Sedona, which happened to be the name of his wife.
